Charlie Chat 2 : Wedding Wednesday

Talking about our love story a few weeks ago and reading all of your comments seriously had me teary eyed. I love our story, but to hear your comments made me want to share a little more...this time from my Charlie. It's time for another Charlie Chat...Part 2 of the Wedding Wednesday stories.

In case you forgot...here's how this works:
Let's get started. But before we begin here's the rundown.
My questions are in bold italics, Charlie's answers follow and my commentary, if any, is after the *asterisk.

When did you know you wanted to marry me?
It was on Wednesday. I don't know...who writes these questions? Where's the fluff? This is some hard-hitting journalism. I feel like I knew pretty early on. When I saw the love that you had for Ethan, I'm pretty sure that deep down I knew this was about to go down. In a decade or so...

*Charlie apparently doesn't like the tough questions. I hope the rest of this goes smooth....

How long did you have the ring before you decided on a proposal date?
Ha! The hundred dollar question! I definitely didn't have the ring for as long as I told you that I did, but it was an awful long time. I saved up, paid in cash (K-Mart loves when you pay in cash at the jewelry counter) and hid it from you in my baseball cards under the bed because I knew that you'd never look in there. As far as choosing the proposal date, I definitely didn't have a plan. All I knew for sure was that I'm no basic bitch and we weren't doing this on a holiday or gift-giving holiday. When the opportunity came up to spend the day with Nanu and Gram, on 4/12, I knew that there was a higher power at work and I just had to act on it.

*I was SLEEPING on top of this thing for months...you've got to be kidding me. Apparently 412 wasn't as big of a plan as I thought, but everything happens for a reason.

Speaking of the proposal, were you nervous?
Don't be dumb. I could hear my heart beating and I was pretty confident that you could, too. The day started to get away from me when we won the Cavs tickets and I knew I had to act fast...that's when you thought I had a heart attack.

How did you choose the ring?
We went to look at rings like 6 years ago and I got a feel for what you were into. I knew that I wanted to get you something you liked but you weren't picking this thing out. I took a few trips by myself to check some things out but it wasn't until Cutty took me to see Tommy the Jeweler that I knew what I had to do. My man took me to Diamond University and after he bruised my pride a little bit, I left that cheesy/fancy place a hell of a lot smarter and drew up your ring on a napkin in my car. I took it to the jeweler that he recommended (in my price range, lol) and showed them the plan. I picked out the jewels and the band and we got down to numbers. Next thing you know, I'm dropping Hamiltons like Aaron Burr and we're almost officially engaged. The lady seemed genuinely impressed and said it'd take a few weeks to custom make, but here's the kicker...she called me like 10 hours later and said that it was done. She said she was so excited to see this thing in real life that she started working on it immediately and worked on it through the night. It turned out almost as awesome as I drew it up and into the baseball cards it went.

*It did feel like an awfully long time between us looking at rings and one appearing on my finger...if it was 6 years I may have hurt him by then. HA! I do remember being at work when Mike's (Cutty) girlfriend said him and Chuck were going somewhere that day and he was being suspicious. She tracked Mike's phone and they were in Ohio near a Tiffany's. I was pretty much freaking out. Turns out, he was close by at Tommy the jewelers. It was less than a year later until he proposed. I must also add that I love how unique my ring is, I've never seen anything like it and am so happy that Chuck designed it himself.

Did you at any point during our relationship think, this chic is crazy!? Or was it more of an- I need to make this crazy chic my wife?
I still think you're crazy at least once a day but I think that's what makes us work. I'm a vanilla dude and I need some bat-shit to spice up my life. That's you, baby!

*Sounds about right.

Any advice for guys out there stressing about a ring and proposing?
You mean the guys reading your blog? Hi Moon! As a matter of fact, I do. Don't get engaged on a holiday or your girl's birthday. The dumbest things I read on Facebook are, "Oh Uncle Stu had a coughing fit and next thing I know, Connor's one one knee, asking for my hand." You're the problem, Connor. She deserves a night to say she got engaged. She's been drawing this shit up since 1986...do the right thing. Don't get too crazy with the proposal. You know that saying, it's not the destination, it's the journey? That doesn't apply here. You have about 2.6 seconds from when you commit until she figures out what's going on...remember when I said she's been playing this scenario out since Bill Cosby wasn't a known deviant? Do you want her to figure out that today's the day she's getting proposed to and then drive around the city looking for terrible clues you stapled to trees waiting for the payoff? You need to strike fast, like Bruce Lee or Mike Tyson. Shock and Awe, baby!

*I have no words for this. LOL

What things did you want to help with during the wedding planning process? Anything not go as planned or how you wanted?
We're already married so I can probably break you off honestly now. All I cared about was the DJ, the food and the honeymoon. I wanted to shake my ass, gorge myself on carbs and get outta town. Basically, almost none of it went as planned. You asked my opinion on tons of stuff and even evaluated my input a couple of times. I did pick a banging DJ and the food was slamming though so I guess it went okay. I wouldn't have changed any of it for the world. At the end of the night, we were married and now we're living happily ever after.

*Chuck was in charge of the DJ, he did good. People raved about the food and we had one awesome dance party. I don't remember asking tons of opinions, but it does sound like me. I'm always wanting to please everyone. I wouldn't change a thing either...it was the Best Day Ever.

Thanks Charlie for hanging out for another Wedding Wednesday Charlie Chat. It's always great to hear from you...no matter how crazy your answers are.
