You Are Beautiful: Loving Every Size

When I was growing up I never paid attention to the my size, the size of my friends, or many others for that matter. I find it so sad that young women these days constantly compare themselves to others, and there are so many reasons why. Society tells us to be small, the fashion and beauty industry thinks everyone should look a certain way, and peer pressure encourages us to not be overweight.

Where are the magazine ads telling us to be a good person? When is the last time you compared yourself to someone else based on what's inside?

I've mentioned before that I have put on some weight in the past few years. I struggle with it a lot and wish I was someone who is more motivated by working out, or someone who enjoys getting their frustration out with a good run. I'm not either of those people and I'm not sure I will ever be, so working out is a daily battle. Most days I end up losing, and it's a vicious cycle of being tired and not working out, but battling the "you have no energy because you aren't active enough" talk in my head.

While I still get judged, and am sometimes  hard on myself about my weight I have realized that as I get older I have become more secure I am with myself, on all fronts.
I find that I am less concerned with the size of my pants, and more focused on the difference I am making in the world.
I used to be a pessimist. I was a brat. I judged people way too easily. I thought the worst of every situation. I was downright depressed. I'm not quite sure if a certain event happened, or multiple situations that made me change the way I view the world and the people in it.

It's baffling to me that so much pressure is put on the way we are supposed to look, and less on how we treat other humans.

Ladies, stop worrying about the size of your dress. The size of your heart is what really matters. You won't get far with a size small, but I promise you a heart of gold will make all the difference in this crazy world that we all need.

5 Essential Wedding Planning Tips

Throughout my wedding planning I haven't shared a ton of details or written about it, because I want much of what is to come at our big day to be a surprise for our guests. I am excited to share what has worked for me, or advice I can offer to other brides as time moves along.

Make a list with ALL the details
When we first got engaged I began writing a list with bullet points and ideas for every part of our wedding. From guest list, to wedding shower and beyond full of reminders of tricks for coordinating seating arrangements and cute invitations I had seen years ago. It's a good idea to have everything in one place. My master list is about 10 pages full of notes, dates, prices and reminders. The more you have written down in one big list the less chaotic it will be trying to gather your ideas from all the different places you have them stored.

It's never too early to begin
I got engaged in April of last year and began purchasing things and planning right away. There were certain things that Chuck and I knew we wanted so it was easy to get started on all the details. People will tell you that "you have time", which is true, but now that I am 5 months out there is still many little items that still need to come together and get checked off the list. Start contacting vendors, venues and family members early on so that you can get your big day planned just the way you like. I learned the hard way with choosing a DJ that these things go fast. If you can meet with people and select the things you want early on, you will have a lot less to worry about as time goes by.

At the end of the day, this is YOUR big day
Planning a wedding can be extremely stressful, especially when so many people are involved. I started taking things very personally when people didn't like my ideas or our plans for the wedding. It was upsetting to hear certain things, but talking to friends who have been through this before made me feel much better. Everyone has an opinion, it's true, but when all and said is done this is your wedding, no one else. My thought about it now is "If I'm going to do this once it's going to be exactly the way I dreamed." It can be difficult to let things roll off your back, but please, for your sanity, take people's comments and move on. You may learn something from them, but don't let them stress you out. Enjoy the planning, creating and dreaming of your wedding day.

Don't compare yourself.
Stick to your vision. Organize your thoughts on a Pinterest board or a vision board and go from there. Don't let Pinterest take over your wedding though. I had to tell myself this when I had my centerpieces found, planned, purchased and done last year. I then started seeing more beautiful ideas online and thought mine should be bigger, or blingier. It's hard to not compare your wedding to others, just like we analyze every other part of our lives we do the same when it comes to flowers, favors and everything wedding. Don't get caught up in the wedding hype...the industry will try to sell you everything under the sun, but stay on your path and don't overdo it.

Don't buy the first thing you see.
Get plenty of options and save yourself some money. I researched tons of websites just for some napkins and finally purchased them with a coupon I received for signing up for their e-mails and a promo code I had found online. I have scored so many great deals by checking out multiple businesses and my good friend Google. A few great websites I found amazing ideas and pieces for our big day: Afloral, Tradesy & Wedding Paper Divas.

I hope these tips help other brides in the planning process, since I know it can be overwhelming. If you stay organized and follow these tips you will be able to stay calm and plan the wedding of your dreams.

Any other helpful advice for us brides to be?

3 Step Protein Bites

I have heard of protein energy bites for a while now, and never took the time to make them. With this wedding getting closer, and my sweet tooth needing a bit of control I had to try them out.

You will need:
1/2 cup chocolate chips
1/3 cup honey
1/2 cup peanut butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/cup flax & chia seeds
2/3 cup toasted coconut
1 cup old fashioned oats

To prepare:
Mix all ingredients in a large bowl until well mixed
Place bowl in your refrigerator covered for 30 minutes
When chilled, roll into bite size balls, I made mine about 1"
Keep in refrigerator, for up to 1 week
Makes 20-30 balls

These were so easy to make, and even better to enjoy. They are the perfect snack any time of the day, I have been enjoying them with my lunch or when I'm craving something sweet.

What's your favorite go-to healthy snack?

Things You Need To Know

There's a few things you need to know. They may not all be related, but they are very important items to get your week off to a good start. I promise...

While Sarah is off enjoying her European vacation she allowed me to guest post. If you're looking for a way to pamper yourself at home my DIY Coconut Coffee face mask is what you need.

As I already mentioned, my blogiversary is next month. I'm trying to reach 1,000 followers on all my social media accounts & Friday I did it on Twitter.  WOO HOO! If you wanna keep up with all things Dream Big follow me on Instagram, Facebook & Bloglovin too.
Just a warning: I love to post pictures of the sky, like this one-

Unfortunately my Sephora is small, and located inside of a JC Penney store. I picked up a few goodies this weekend, but they didn't have a tanning oil I was looking for. Thankfully Sephora now offers something called Flash. Sephora Flash is unlimited free 2 day shipping, with no minimum purchase required. You can add it to your cart for only $10 and it's good for a whole year.

If you haven't yet discovered the Dubsmash app, please find it and download immediately. Not only has it provided endless hours of entertainment, it actually makes my days a heck of a lot more interesting. Ethan makes about 12 a day, and some of my friends and I send them to each other which is just plain awesome. For those of you that aren't aware, Dubsmash is basically a short clip of your face lip syncing to songs, movie quotes, TV personality ramblings, etc... to make lots of free fun!

This Thursday is the You Are Beautiful link-up with Lauren from Lot 48 and I. I hope you will join us and share your stories about self love, a time you have struggled, or an inspirational post to help empower others and boost confidence fo us women.

Love & Umbrella's

Last night Ethan had his final performance at his elementary school. I remember when he moved to Erie with us and had to start a brand new school. He was nervous, but still a little excited. I had no fear that he was going to excel and do just fine.
Watching him grow up in this school the past 3 years has been amazing. Each year he gains a little more confidence, tries one more new thing and makes me more proud.

Last week he told Chuck and I that his class was going to have  an auction for some umbrellas after his chorus performance. The next day, I was at his school shopping with Ethan during his book fair when he showed me the umbrella he designed in art class for the auction. It was so bright and beautiful and I was amazed at his work. He asked me how many dollars we had in our bank account, because he really wanted to "support cancer and raise money."

Last night after his performance the umbrella auction began and the first few umbrellas went for over $100. His umbrella came up and Ethan stood in front of the crowd smiling ear to ear. We started bidding and Chuck looked at me and said "What's our limit here?" I responded, "There is no limit." Ethan was beaming as we went back and forth bidding. We ended up taking home that umbrella, and I honestly would have spent all the money I own if it came down to it.

I've never had a doubt that I love Ethan, but last night I felt something that I can't explain. His smile, his sense of pride and confidence came over me in another way that I haven't experienced before. I hope everyone gets to know love like this at some point or another.

This is what life is all about. Love. And awesome umbrella's that cost us a lot of money.

Have a good weekend everyone!

Currently

Because it's what's on my mind, here's what I'm up to right now.

Currently...

Watching: About Bruce. Seriously, Bruce Jenner is an amazing person for all that he has been through, suffered internally, and backlash the media has sent his way. HUGE props to him for living out his dream. The whole process and transition is pretty interesting and emotional to watch.

Reading: "What's The Secret? To Providing a World-Class Customer Experience" ....work for work, enough said.

Listening To: Pretty Girls by Britney and Iggy, on repeat. I don't care what anyone says, I LOVE it!

Shopping For: Wedding EVERYTHING....flowers, gifts, shower favors. I'm starting to get overwhelmed at times, but I have my lists and need to remember I'm right on schedule. I see other brides in the planning process doing things and think that I should be doing more, but that's not my vision...stay on track Emelia.

No Green Thumb // No Problem

So when Sarah from Coffee & Glitter posted about these cute succulents, I was intrigued. Wait, you don't have to work hard to keep this thing alive? I'm all in.

You will need:
A mason jar or pot-something you will be able to fit your hand inside
     - I found some great ones at Target and Marshall's
A few succulents- a cactus is so cute
     - Lowe's had an entire section of succulents
Cactus soil
Small garden rocks

To make:
Fill the jar or pot about 1/3 of the way up with the cactus soil
Prepare a hole in the soil where you will place your succulents
Put down a little more soil around your succulents
Place the rocks around the succulents to make it pretty

I  also read that you can first line with a layer of rocks under the soil, and add some sand after the succulents are in before you put the rocks on top. There are so many variations and great ideas on Pinterest too.
  Follow Dream Big & Buy The Shoes's board G R E E N * T H U M B on Pinterest.

The succulent garden's make a great gift, I made one for Chuck's mom for Mother's Day and she loved it. They are a great homemade treat that don't cost much to make. I am really loving useful DIY projects that can double as gifts, because something from the heart is a wonderful present in my opinion.

Beauty Review: Eyes & Lips, Oh My! & A Sephora Giveaway

I've become a huge fan of reviewing beauty products here for you, because let's face it...we need to know the real in's and out's of these things.
A few of these items I was really excited to purchase and waited a while, so let's see if they lived up to the hype.

Benefit Boi-ing Concealer
I have been ON THE HUNT for a while for a great new concealer, and after reading a ton of reviews I think I have found it. I love Benefit products, which is part of the reason I was drawn in to this one. I have tried sticks, powders, creams, etc...and this cream like consistency works best for me. I put some on my thumb and rub it with my pointer finger to warm it up so that it smooths on easily. I have not tried it with a primer yet, but from what I have read it should last even longer on top of one.

Price: $20 from Sephora
Overall thoughts: I love it, but I'm going to see if I can find something a little less expensive with the same great results.

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara
I could not wait to try this product, but held off until I was in need of more mascara. To be honest, it could have been never since I have about 10 in my make-up case, but I needed to try it. I'm sad that it didn't live up to my personal hype. I love the way it rolls up my lashes and covers them well without having to put on too many coats. I think that it will last quite a long time since I don't have to use much of the product to get my desired look for my eyes.

Price: $24 from Sephora
Overall thoughts: I thought I would get a more volumized and dramatic effect, so that is why I was let down. I still prefer a few of my original favorites over this one, womp womp.

Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick
This is another product I couldn't wait to get my hands on. I wanted to try a new, bold color and this one definitely delivered just that. I chose the color Violet Orchid and have received SO MANY compliments when I wear it. The lipstick lives up to it's name, because it is long lasting for sure...I only have to re-apply about twice a day, which is usually after eating lunch and dinner. I love a lipstick that lasts through my morning coffee sippin' and afternoon water drinkin'.

Price: $21 from Sephora
Overall thoughts: New favorite lipstick! I have always loved the Nars pencils, but I have to apply a gloss over them to get the look I am going for. With the Too Faced lipstick I get just what I need with the power of a lipstick and gloss in one, perfection!!

Brush Egg Cleaning Tool
I am always looking to try out the next best thing, whether it be a product or a beauty tool. I love when a product lives up to what I hope for, so that I can share the good news with all of you and add another new thing to my case.
Not only is this brush egg inexpensive, but it gets the job done quick and easy. I applied some of my liquid Beauty Blender cleanser on the brush egg, ran some water, and cleaned the brushes by moving them in a circular motion on the egg to get them nice and fresh.

Price: $10 from Amazon
Overall thoughts: Can't beat the price or the effectiveness...it works so well. I recommend this over hand washing all those brushes, for sure. The egg cuts down cleaning time and gets in those hard to reach places.

Now, what's a beauty review without a giveaway to get some new goodies of your own?! I've partnered with these other beautiful bloggers to offer you the chance to win a $185 gift card to Sephora. Good Luck!

You Are Beautiful // Random Acts Of Kindness

You know those things that just make you feel good....like a sweet compliment or a hug? Well there's these other actions that make me happy and they're random acts of kindness.

Whether it's buying coffee for the next person in the drive thru, or helping carry someone's groceries to their car, these acts can make anyone feel beautiful. I love the feeling I get after helping someone, especially if they don't even know it was me.
You're wondering how that happens, right? How do they not know it was me? I'll let you in on my secret...surprise random acts of kindness are my favorite. You can see another secret delivery of mine here.

I love leaving things for people, standing back...and watching for their reaction. It is so much fun and amazing to see their genuine, raw reactions.

The latest surprises were left in different areas of my local Target. I purchased Starbucks gift cards and left them in various spots with a note to pay it forward, and enjoy the treat!

The feeling I get when someone is on the receiving end of my kindness makes me all sorts of giddy. I would give my last five dollars to make someone's day. I would much rather help someone and turn around their day then let it go to waste.
You don't need to spend money to be kind to someone. Hold doors, offer a helping hand unloading their car, offer to babysit a friend's child so she can go to the store in peace...there's so many little things you can do to make a difference.

You know what else I love? Entrepreneurs who have worked hard to build their business and all the while do amazing things for others. If you haven't heard of Kiki La Rue or The Shine Project, please check them out. Becka and Ashley constantly inspire me to be a better person and to more for others.

Leaving a mark on someone else's heart, making them smile, turning their day around....are all beautiful pieces that come to make our world a better place. That's pretty awesome when you think about it.

How will you make the world more beautiful? What's your favorite random act of kindness?

Join Lauren & I again on May 28th for the next link-up. Have a wonderful weekend friends!

What Works For Me // A Blogging Checklist

It's almost been one whole year since I started blogging, and the amount of information I've come across and tidbits & tips I have learned still amaze me daily. I'm not here to tell you what you need to do to be a better blogger, or that you must do the list below to be successful. Sharing is caring, and what works for me may help one of you at some point.

I am striving to create more beautiful posts, rich with stunning images, packed full of useful information and a little something that leaves you smiling as you finish. When composing posts, there is so much to keep in mind so I've developed a checklist for myself that you could use for yourself daily. Yay for more printables!

First things first, a pretty image with the title and your website that will work great for a Pinterest board is the first thing I like people to see in my posts.
I create and edit pictures using PicMonkey & Canva and have been very pleased with the options available on both websites thus far.

Next, something I recently (like yesterday) started doing is a click to tweet link. I create a tweet that I want to embed in my post for others to easily click and share on Twitter. No copying a link, creating a tweet, pasting the said link, etc... My readers can share my post all in the matter of one click with the help of click to tweet. Here it is in action:

Tweet: What blogger doesn't love a checklist? Here's one to help you create great posts.

I personally prefer 2-3 pictures for my posts, if I have them. Sometimes I don't have images of my own that fit with particular posts, but my goal is 2-3. I have grown a bit in my picture taking skills, with the use of some basic white posterboard and more natural sunglight. I can't wait to see how my pictures improve over time with more equipment and knowledge.

Want to get your overall pageviews up and share some posts new readers may have missed? It's easy, and something I often forget to do. Share a post from the past that relates to the current one. If I do a recipe post, I share another concoction I've made. I am trying to make a better effort to do this a few times a week.

I know there are several scheduling websites people use, but I love Hootsuite. I've used it in the past at various jobs, so I know how to use it and it works well for what I need. I schedule tweets as soon as I have a post ready. It's easy for me to do within a few minutes & have 2-3 tweets scheduled for the day a post goes live. I usually schedule one for around 10 am, 1 pm, and 7 pm...I vary the times day to day but stay in those ranges.

Raise your hand if you're awful at pinning information from your blog to Pinterest? ME ME ME! I can NEVER remember to do this. Thanks to Anne, I learned about Tailwind and set it up last week. I am able to schedule pins simply and not have to remember to do it at "the best times to pin" as recommended by every pinning genius out there. I highly recommend reading Anne's post about scheduling pins here , she shares a ton of useful information for clueless pinners like me.

Follow Dream Big & Buy The Shoes's board C H E E R S* time for a DRINK on Pinterest.

I know there's A LOT of bloggers out there that no longer use Facebook, but I do. Several of my family members and friends interact with my Facebook page and it helps people see my posts. For now, I'll be keeping my page because it doesn't hurt my blog in any way.

If you want some great basic tips to get started you can check out her post here, it helped me begin my relationship with SEO.

Maxxed Up Moscow Mule

Can you believe I hadn't tried a Moscow Mule until last year? Crazy, right?! I can't believe I was missing out on this delicious, refreshing drink all this time. I thought that they were complicated to make, but they are actually far from that.

Simple, quick & tasty is at your fingertips with just a few ingredients, including one to jazz up your Mule. Thank you to Reed's for the perfect ingredients to make the most delicious drink.

Tweet: Sharing some ways to jazz up your Moscow Mule with a Reed's Ginger Brew.

You will need:
2 oz. vodka
lime juice from 1/2  a lime
3 oz. ginger brew ( I prefer Reeds's Ginger Brew)
ice

To prepare:
Mix all ingredients in a Moscow Mule mug or highball glass.
Garnish with a lime.
Cheers!

Reed's Ginger Brew is made with all natural ingredients, which is a great perk to this ingredient. Reed's comes in the classic Ginger flavor, as well as Cherry, Raspberry and Spiced Apple. These flavors really kick up the zest in the drink. My favorite is the Raspberry Ginger Brew, but I could really see myself enjoying the Spiced Apple in the early fall.

The Moscow Mule has become one of my favorite beverages to enjoy, especially during these sunshine filled spring weekend days.

If you're looking for a fun glass to make to enjoy your cocktails in you should check out my post about some DIY Drinkware here.

Hope everyone is having a great week so far.

Mom's Are Awesome

Mom's are awesome, there's no other way to say it. Do you know anyone else that loves you after carrying you around in their body for 9 months? Nope!

I put together a gift guide with some lovely, delicate items perfect for any type of mom or lady in your life. What I really want to talk about today is the amazing things mom's bring to our lives.

Whether you're a mom, an aunt, a daughter, or a stepmom...there's something on this list that we all have experienced at one time or another.

They love us no matter how many times we mess up
You could lie a million times over as a child and make 120 mistakes and they're still waiting to pick you up, brush you off and move on.

Mom's are our biggest fans...any time of the day
After a hard day at work sitting on the sidelines cheering us on the field, at 1 am when we went to the bathroom on the toilet for the first time, or the mid-day phone calls letting us know "You Got This" ....they never put down their pom-pom's.

Your mom always know what's best to say
They know us best. There's those times we just can't hear an "I'm sorry honey"...the right words come out of their mouth and suddenly everything is right in the world again. They know just what to say and when to say it.

A mom never gives up...especially on you
Mom's work hard to provide...whether it's all day at a 9 to 5, or helping bathe, cook, and hold up the house, their work never ends. After a hard day at the job, they are still there to help with homework, teach us how to do our laundry, paint our nails for school pictures or give us the best advice.

My mom taught me to never stop working towards my dream. I remember some of her last coherent days while she sat with me as I applied to college. She  told me that she was so proud of me, and I wasn't sure why I made her so happy sitting  at a table writing an essay. My mom wasn't there the day I got my first acceptance letter, but I can imagine what she was thinking up in heaven. She helped me achieve my goals and I still dream big. I'm pretty sure my mom instilled that way of thinking in me.

My wish for you whether you're a mom, a daughter, or someone who has an amazing role model...is that you get the chance to let them know how much they are loved and appreciated. No bottle of perfume or bouquet of flowers means more to someone than hearing they are treasured.

Have a wonderful weekend and Happy Mother's Day!!

Fun fact: Chelsea can write you a poem for a loved one, yourself, or whatever you choose....how special and sweet is that?!
